Plant milks (such as almond, oat, soy and coconut), vegan feta on toasties, and plant-based basil pesto are available as options. The protein add-in is PranaOn Power Plant Protein, which is Australian-made and vegan certified, so adding protein keeps an order plant-based. Collagen, honey and condensed milk are NOT vegan. The current list is at https://www.theacaiaffect.com/vegan. - Gluten free: granola is labelled gluten free, and buckini is activated buckwheat, a seed rather than a gluten grain. Items marked GF on the menu are made gluten free. Several Grab and Go slices are vegan, gluten free and refined sugar free. - Not everything here is health food. Some bowls are closer to dessert, and the shop says so rather than calling everything a superfood. ## Key pages - Menu and online ordering: https://www.theacaiaffect.com/order-online/menu - Catering enquiries: https://www.theacaiaffect.com/catering - Loyalty program: https://www.theacaiaffect.com/loyalty - Gift cards: https://www.theacaiaffect.com/gift-card - Vegan and plant-based options: https://www.theacaiaffect.com/vegan - Contact and directions: https://www.theacaiaffect.com/contact - Journal: https://www.theacaiaffect.com/blog ## Frequently asked questions ### Where is The Acai Affect? We are at 339 Centre Rd, Bentleigh VIC 3204, among the Centre Rd shops. Call us on 0450 478 933. ### Where can I park? Street parking on Centre Rd and nearby side streets, and a 2-minute walk from Bentleigh station — about 150 m west along Centre Rd. ### How do I get there from Bentleigh station? It is about a 2-minute walk, roughly 150 metres. Come out of Bentleigh station onto Centre Rd and head west, and we are among the shops at number 339, on the same strip as the rest of the Centre Rd cafes and shopping. There is street parking on Centre Rd and the side streets around it if you are driving instead. ### What are your opening hours? Mon Closed, Tue–Fri 8am–4pm, Sat 8am–5pm, Sun 9am–4pm. ### Can I order online for pickup? Yes. Order from our online menu and collect in store. You pay securely at checkout and sign in with a code we text you. No app, no password. ### Can I order ahead? Yes. At checkout, choose as soon as possible and your order is usually ready in about 15 minutes, or pick a pickup time up to 7 days ahead. ### What is acai? The fruit of a palm that grows in the Amazon basin, harvested and frozen as a pulp. It is unusually rich in anthocyanins, and most of its energy comes from monounsaturated fat rather than sugar, which is what makes it behave differently from most berries. ### Is an acai bowl healthy? It depends almost entirely on what goes on top. Acai pulp itself is unusual for a fruit: published compositional work reports an oil fraction dominated by monounsaturated fat, around 60 per cent oleic acid, rather than the sugar most berries lead with. Unsweetened pulp is where our bowls start. From there the toppings decide what the bowl becomes. Granola runs from wholegrain and lightly sweetened to something closer to a dessert cereal, and chocolate, condensed milk and a honey drizzle are added sugar — some of our bowls are closer to dessert than to breakfast, and we would rather say so. If you want a lighter one, ask: the Mango Chia Pudding and the fruit-and-nut bowls sit at the other end. We would rather tell you what is in a bowl than call it a superfood. ### Do you have gluten-free options? Items marked GF on the menu are made without gluten ingredients. What we cannot offer is a dedicated gluten-free kitchen: we toast sandwiches on ordinary bread and we use oats in the warm bowls and granola, in the same space and with the same equipment, so cross-contact is possible on any item. For someone avoiding gluten by preference that is usually fine. For coeliac disease it is the part that matters, so tell us before we start your order and we will be straight with you about what we can and cannot guarantee for the item you want. Our blog post on vegan and gluten-free options goes through this item by item, including which slices and puddings carry a gluten-free claim from the people who make them. ### Do you have vegan and dairy-free options? Yes. Plant milks are available on drinks and smoothies, the coconut yoghurt most bowls are built with is plant-based, and the protein we add is PranaOn Power Plant Protein, which is Australian-made and certified vegan — so adding protein does not change whether an order is plant-based. Three things on the menu are not vegan and are easy to miss: honey, condensed milk and the collagen add-in. Leave them off, or ask for the plant protein instead of collagen. Dairy free is not the same question as vegan, so if that is what you need, say so when you order and we will check the item rather than guess. Our vegan options page lists everything the menu currently marks vegan or vegan friendly, read from the live menu, along with the plant milks and swaps available that day. ### Do you have a loyalty program? Yes. You earn 1 point for every $1 you spend, in store and online, and 140 points is $10 off an order. Online, the phone number you verify at checkout is your membership, so there is nothing extra to join. ### Do you cater? Yes, we do catering for offices and events in the Bentleigh area. Send an enquiry through the catering page with your date and guest numbers.
